FAFCE Statement on Recent Developments in Albania’s Family Legislation

FAFCE welcomes the recent developments regarding the draft law on gender equality in Albania, recognising the ongoing public and institutional engagement on this important issue. FAFCE highlights the role of the Albanian Civil Society and echoes the public statement of the Albanian Pro Life and Family Coalition, which has called on the Parliament of Albania to withdraw the draft law in its current form, and to remove all provisions that go beyond the natural concept of male and female, preserving gender binarity.

FAFCE’s President, Vincenzo Bassi, stated: “Congratulations to our friends of the Albanian Pro Life and Family Coalition and to all the Albanian Civil Society for their tireless work so that the family can be really honoured for what it is truly: the cornerstone of our communities.”

The fundamental role of the family, grounded in the union of a man and a woman, remains the cornerstone of society. This natural foundation supports the best interest and flourishing of children, women and men alike ; creating a stable and thriving community.

FAFCE welcomes efforts that respect this vital structure and calls for legislative frameworks that uphold this core principle. We stand in favour of policies that enhance the recognition and protection of the family unit as the essential building block for the future of our society.

The robust public consensus in Albania underscores the importance of preserving the complementary nature of man and woman within the family, which is intrinsic to social harmony and the dignity of all its members.

We encourage decision-makers to continue crafting laws that reinforce these principles, ensuring that the family’s role as society’s foundational element is honoured and supported with love, respect, and fairness.
