Brussels (25 February 2020) – Our President, Vincenzo Bassi, and our Secretary General, Nicola Speranza, met with Vice-President Dubravka Šuica and her team to present FAFCE’s proposals regarding her portfolio on Demography and Democracy.

They discussed about demographic trends, family-friendly policies, work-life balance and the irreplaceable role of family in educating their children as future citizens. Our President stressed the importance of the family as our common responsibility to ensure the future of Europe and reaffirmed FAFCE’s support to the European Commission to go in this direction.
The European Commission is expected to publish in the coming days the Demographic Impact Report, aiming at planning a response at the national and European level. The cabinet of Vice-President Dubravka Šuica is working as well on a Green Paper on Ageing for the end of 2020.

In the same line, the Intergroup on Demographic Challenges, Family-Work Balance and Youth Transitions has been launched earlier this year in the European Parliament. This working group of MEPs from all political groups will address the issues of population ageing and the urgent need to recognize the role of the family to ensure a future to our countries. The Intergroup will be a relevant inter-institutional forum of exchange to tackle the demographic deficit at EU level.
