Families need a more effective support

Brussels, 4 May 2020

Families and enterprises must be helped together: they go hand in hand and everyone, in the current situation, should recognise this evidence“- says Vincenzo Bassi, President of the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE), reacting to the words of the President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde, who said last Thursday that monetary policies should encourage banks to keep lending to families and firms throughout the crisis. “We welcome the measures that the ECB is taking to give more liquid assets and credit to families, but we need to act faster and more effectively at all levels. Tomorrow we will carefully follow the conclusions of the informal video-conference of the ministers of Labour and Social Affairs organised by the Croatian Presidency of the EU: it is necessary that all Member States make concrete proposals to support families, adapted to the historical emergency that we are experiencing“. The Board of FAFCE will hold its Spring Board Meeting this Wednesday, the 6th of May, via video-conference, gathering 31 family associations representatives from 18 European Countries.
