Brussels, 1st October 2018

On 6 and 7 October, the people of Romania will be invited to vote in the referendum on marriage. If this referendum passes by reaching the minimum threshold of 30% of the voters’ participation, Article 48 of the Romanian Constitution will change, specifying that marriage is the union between one man and one woman.

The Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE), together with its Romanian Member, the Catholic Family Association ‘Vladimir Ghika’, has worked during the last two years to support the organisation of this referendum, which represents a sign of hope for all Europe.

In this context FAFCE underlines the need to respect this free expression of democracy: this respect is needed by everyone living inside and outside of Romania, especially by institutions and organisations intending to work for the Common Good.

FAFCE strongly encourages all Romanian citizens to take part in this referendum and to vote YES: the marriage, as the union of one man and one woman, is the only institution capable to grant the generational renewal for our societies.

Dear Romanian friends, please, say yes to the family, say yes to the future!
